In Bhutan many festivals are held at different places almost every month. The best known festivals are called TSHECHUS which are celebrated in honor of a great teacher Padmasambhava who contributed enormously to the diffusion of tantric Buddhism in the Himalayan region of Tibet, Bhutan and Nepal around 800 AD. He is also the founder of the Nyingmapa, the old school of Lamaism. The dates and the duration of TSHECHU festivals differ from one place to another taking place on or around the 10th day of the month according to Bhutanese calendar. Both monks and the common folks dance together at the courtyard of the monasteries. The Bhutanese people give more importance to the festivals which bring shower of blessings to their lives.  These events bind the local people to socialize, to laugh and to crack jokes with their neighbors and friends. On this special occasion they wear finest clothes and jewelry, eat special food and share greetings. We have given below TSECHU festival events held in different parts of Bhutan. Itinerary

Day 01: Fly Kathmandu to Paro.

On arrival in Paro you will be met by our airport representative and transferred to hotel.

Excursion around Paro and in the evening drive to Thimphu.

 

Day 02: Drive Thimphu to Punakha

While on the trip you will view majestic Himalayan peaks until you reach Punakha for overnight stay. Next day morning you will visit the Punakha Dzong and Wangduephodrang. Overnight stay at hotel

 

Day 03: Drive to Bumthang

Drive to Bumthang crossing two passes- Pele La, Yotong La and visit the largest Dzong in Trongsa valley which is popular for the ancestral home of the Bhutanese kings. Overnight stay in Bumthang

 

Day 04: Festival day in Bumthang

Full day festival observation in Bumthang where you can participate with the local people.

 

Day 05: Excursion to Ura
After breakfast we make day excursion to Ura and return to Bumthang to participate in  the closing ceremony of the festival. Overnight stay at guesthouse

 

Day 06: Participating in closing ceremony of festival

After breakfast day trip Ura, return to Bumthang view the closing ceremony of Festival. Overnight stay at guesthouse

 

Day 07: Drive to Thumphu & sightseeing

After early breakfast we drive to Thimphu for full day sightseeing that includes a visit to the Simtokha Dzong, Painting School, Handicrafts Emporium, National Memorial Chorten and stupa of the late Bhutanese king. Overnight stay at Thimphu.

 

Day 08: Drive to Paro

After breakfast we drive to Paro where we visit National Museum and the Paro Dzong,  Ugyen Pelri Palace. In the afternoon we drive up north to see the Drukgyel Dzong now in ruins. On the way up, we visit Taktsang. Overnight stay at Hotel

 

Day 09: Final departure

Transfer to Airport for final departure to Kathmandu or other destinations
